Nickelodeon star Jan Schwieterman dies aged 52
Jan Patrick J.P. Schwieterman has died after a short battle with cancer.
The actor was best known for playing villain Kurt Bozwell in the 1997 comedy Good Burger, one of Nickelodeon’s earliest movies.
It’s now been announced he died aged 52 on February 28 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri.
Posting a statement on Facebook, his brother Chad Schwieterman shared: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman.
‘He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer.”
‘Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you.’
Born in Bluffton, Indiana, Schwieterman moved to Los Angeles soon after graduating high school to pursue a career in acting.
His early jobs included roles on shows including McKenna, ER and Forever.
He was then cast as the villain in Good Burger, in which he starred alongside Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.
Following the success of that film, the actor appeared in shows like Felicity before taking a seven-year break from the industry in 2000.
His last film credit was in the 2008 film Along the Way.
The actor did not reprise his role in the Good Burger sequel, which was released in 2023.
His obituary also read: ‘J.P. loved to travel. He has travelled to many countries throughout his life, most recently to Thailand. He was an artist of photography and painting. He studied martial arts and loved playing Dungeons and Dragons.’
Thanking people for their support, Chad added: ‘We miss JP deeply and appreciate your thoughts and prayers.’
He survived by his parents Clara and LeeRoy, two sisters, his brother, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Schwieterman’s memorial was held March 4.
