How did Cuyahoga Falls woman do on Jeopardy on Friday, April 18?

A final question about presidential candidates in which the winning answer was “Who was McKinley?” tripped up a Cuyahoga Falls woman and another Ohioan on “Jeopardy” on April 18.

Rachael Gray, a Cuyahoga Falls graduate student, and Steven Hoying, an attorney from Hilliard, lost to Liam Starnes, an undergraduate student from Barrington, Illinois.

The clue concerned Ohio Republican William McKinley, who backed the gold standard, while his Democratic opponent, William Jennings Bryan, did not.

Hoying had the correct answer but did not wager enough money. Gray incorrectly guessed “Taft,” a different president from Ohio.

Hoying was the defending champion with previous one-day winnings of $29,403.

Starnes, with $32,401, advances to the next “Jeopardy” game.

“Jeopardy” is broadcast on Cleveland TV station WOIO.
